Hiking Trails Around Cedar City

Hiking weather is upon us! The following list of fun hikes to explore are only a small sampling of the vast amount of hiking areas that Southern Utah has to offer, but they are great places to start. We’ve had a lot of fun compiling a list of beginner hikes that are great for all ages to hikes that are for the more advanced hiker.

Red Hollow Trailhead

The Red Hollow Trailhead is a short drive from Cedar City and is less than one mile up Cedar Canyon on Highway 14. The trail has beautiful surrounding red rock scenery and also has a popular rock climbing area nearby. There are over 12 miles of trail and the Red Hollow trail connects to the Thunderbird Gardens trail/ Thor’s hideout.

The C Trail

The C Trail is one of the must see areas in Cedar City. This trail is approximately 8.2 miles long and hikers can either start at the bottom of the trail or can drive to the overlook at the top of the trail and hike down and back up the trail. The overlook provides a wonderful panoramic view of the Cedar City valley, as well as some of the mountain ranges up the Cedar Canyon. This trail is called the “C Trail” because of the giant white “C” that is located on the mountain below the overlook area.

Valentine Peak

Valentine Peak is just on the outskirts of the charming little town of Parowan and is a great trail for a bit of a challenging workout. This trail is 3.5 miles long and gains just about 2000 feet in elevation when hikers get to the Valentine Peak. There are park benches along this trail, which provides perfect rest stop places for hikers. This trail was named Valentine Peak because on Valentine’s Day, people could stand at 500 West and Center Street in Parowan and watch the sunrise right over the mountain peak, which became known as Valentine Peak.

Spring Creek Canyon Trail

The Spring Creek Canyon Trail winds up into a gorgeous red rock slot canyon and is only 1.5 miles north of the popular Kanarraville Falls trail. This Spring Creek trail is a relatively easy hike and this canyon goes on for miles, but the first 2.75 miles of the hike are the most fascinating. One of the best advantages of this hike is that it crosses Spring Creek multiple times and it is not as populous as other trails in nearby Zion National Park.

Hidden Haven Waterfall

As the name suggests, the Hidden Haven trail leads to a breathtaking waterfall at the end of the trail. This trail is perfect for families with kids, as it is a beginner trail that is only a 1.4 mile out and back trail. This trail is only about 10 miles north of Brian Head and approximately 6 miles south of Parowan.
