How to Prepare Your Home for a Showing

Calling all home sellers! We’ve rounded up a list of tips for preparing your home for a showing! Read below for how you can make the interior and exterior of your home look its best before showing your home to potential buyers.

Get Rid of Clutter

Your home will look much more inviting if there is no clutter around when possible home buyers come to tour your house. When your clutter is hidden, it makes it easier for home buyers to imagine what the house will look like with their own furniture and decorations. Before the showing, make sure that you put the dishes in the dishwasher, hide dirty clothes in the washer, clear all surfaces, take down personal photos, remove excess furniture, and remember to declutter the inside of closets, drawers, and cupboards!

Clean your Home

Even if prospective buyers love the layout and design of the house, a dusty, dirty home can turn them away from considering your property. Taking the steps to clean your home before buyers come to check it out can make a huge difference in buyer interest! To spruce up your home, take the time to dust, vacuum, mop, make the beds, and clean windows, baseboards, and bathrooms.

Curb Appeal

Before potential home buyers even step into the interior of your home, they get a first impression by the look of your front yard. Are there weeds? Is your front yard cluttered? Is your grass long? In order to make a wonderful lasting first impression for your home, pull weeds, mow the lawn, clean up any clutter outside, prune bushes, sweep and power wash the front porch, etc.

Repairs

Even if a buyer loves your home, simple repairs that aren’t taken care of before the showing can make home buyers want to look at another place that doesn’t need repairs. To help prevent this, take the time to repair light bulbs and old fire alarms, repair broken windows, do paint touch-ups, use a foam eraser pad to remove any scuffs from walls, fix any roof leaks, fix damaged flooring, etc.
